The hatchback had been in production for seven years and the coupé on sale for four years before BMW Motorsport finally demonstrated the true potential of the 1 Series. Named the 1M to minimise confusion with the original M1 supercar, this diminutive rear-wheel-drive hooligan delivered 340 PS via a six-speed manual gearbox to become an instant enthusiast hit. So much so, a planned production run of 2,700 cars eventually stretched north of 6,300.

Finished in the desirable launch colour of Valencia Orange Metallic over a Black Boston leather interior featuring orange contrast stitching and Alcantara accents, this example holds a 16 May 2012 date of production ahead of being delivered to its first owner in Germany the following month.
