Christine Lerolle bordando (Christine Lerolle embroidering) - Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Christine Lerolle bordando (Christine Lerolle embroidering) - Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Estados Unidos
OST - 81x65 - 1895-1898
Pierre-Auguste Renoir made this composition of Christine Lerolle, the daughter of art collector who can be seen with a friend in the background of this painting.
Her concentration and skill are evident as she carefully passes a needle through fabric stretched tight by the bamboo embroidery frame resting in her lap.
Renoir thought highly of Lerolle’s activity and those who did not rely on mechanical means to make their creations.
Renoir's anti-industrial attitude was likely heightened by his experiences as a teenager, when his employment as a porcelain decorator was abruptly terminated and his paintbrush replaced by a machine. Trecho de texto do Columbus Museum of Art.
